Thelonius
James Presents The Sunland Chronicles
CD
2008 PickStrum Records
Hello Again, It's been some time since my last collection of songs. This new group of tunes
features various tales of Joy and Desperation entitled The Sunland
Chronicles. We begin with a tune about an Automobile dedicated to
Sunland's Favorite Son, Johnny Williamson, which we like to call Step
on the Gas. Next up is Chicken Pie, a song inspired
completely by the swing in my Baby's Backyard. Like a pendulum do
indeed! More Than a Fool is dedicated to a neighbor. It is the
second installment in the Continuing Saga of Momma's Tattoo. Thelonius
Makes it Real with the Love Ballad: You Give Me Hope, Amen. The
next composition entitled With You captures our Hero in a
melancholy mood under a moonlit Sunland Sky. Popcorn Paws is an
instrumental composed to reflect upon the life of Elvis Sullivan, the
Best Friend a Man Ever Had. Nothin' Matters is a tale of quiet
desperation and hopelessness that speaks volumes in so few words. On the
Flipside is a Sunny Song of Well Being called Life is a Wonder
aka Carol's Song. Baseball fans will no doubt get the message in The
Blues is Like a Ballgame, a juxtaposition between Love and America's
Favorite pastime. Next is the acoustic bounce we call, It Ain't No
Fun Being All Alone. Then the story of a poor boy growing up in
Sunland, California entitled Stuck in the Mud Blues. This is
followed by a guitar party called Charlie's Wild Ride! Thank you
Charlie Christian! (Wish I Could Say) It Was Fun is a tale of
love that was destined to fail from the start. Just to Get to You
Tonight was inspired by a train, a Dobro Guitar and a Million Miles
of Road. We round things out with Extra Jimmies, an instrumental duet
dedicated to one of my Favorite Pickers from the Great State of Texas,
Mr. Jimmie Vaughan. And then we leave you with a short reprise of With
You, until we meet again!
